All The Scary Stuff

Recently, I had a conversation with my kids about the weather. If you live in IL, you can attest to the crazy weather we've been having lately. The high winds, the snow, the ice, and the rain. Granted, I know the midwest is known for all of this but, we had 3-4 days of 60-degree weather, and then boom, winter tried breaking in again.

I had to explain that we are about to enter a new season. Spring is on the horizon. That means the flowers will begin to bloom, the sun will shine, and the trees and grass will grow. It will start to look alive again. With that growth comes the rain, wind, thunder, and lightning; all the scary stuff.

They needed to understand that spring doesn't just pop up. There is a process. The rain is necessary, the thunderstorms are vital, and the wind has a purpose. It all plays a role in the beauty that grows in after some time.

After feeling like the world's best meteorologist, I sat back and realized that this is what happens in our lives as well. Right before we are about to enter a season of beauty, the storms will rise.

The rain, the wind, the howling, the thunder, and lightning will come. It is all vital to your growth. It is necessary. Every problem and trial that rises has a purpose. In Romans 5:3-4 the bible says

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

If you find yourself within a storm, don't lose hope. God has a purpose and plan. That storm is needed for you to grow. The King of Kings who created the heavens and the earth is right there with you. Don't. Lose. Hope.

And, if you have blossomed after the storm, praise God. HE AND HE ALONE DESERVES ALL THE GLORY!
